Move-Out Cleaning Tasks: Cleaning the Carpets

When you move out of your current apartment or home, there are several move-out procedures you have to embark on. One of the tasks that may take a long time for you is cleaning the carpets. Here at the Powell movers, we want to make the carpet cleaning process one that you can manage on your own, without enlisting the help of potentially pricy professionals. In fact, we have tips that will help you create your own DIY carpet cleaners, which will cut down on chemical runoff or purchasing multiple products that may or may not do as they claim. Read on to learn more about our all-natural carpet cleaners and learn how to make them at home.

Shopping List:

(If you don't already have these items in your home, you will need to purchase them)

Liquid dishwashing soap

Sponges

White vinegar

Baking soda

Empty spray bottle

Essential oils if you would like a particular scent

Recipe #1: Create a Carpet-Cleaning Foam. Mix together 1 cup of dishwashing soap and half a cup of warm water. Add a few drops of scented oil if you would like, and continue mixing it all together until the texture is thick and foamy. Use a sponge to rub the cleaner into stained areas of the carpet and remove the residue with a slightly damp washcloth. Absorb excess water and let is air dry; follow with a vacuum.

Recipe #2: Mix Up a Carpet Spray Cleaner. In a spray bottle combine 1 tsp of liquid dishwashing soap, 2 or 3 cups of water and a quart of white vinegar. Shake very well, and add essential oil if the scent is too biting for you as-is. Spray the mixture onto the stained areas and blot stains and solution with a clean and slightly wet cloth. Repeat as needed.

Recipe #3: Natural Carpet Freshening Solution. Even if the carpet doesn't have visible staining, it can still likely use a little tszujing up. Create a carpet freshener by mixing 2 cups of baking soda with essential oils (such as lavender or lemon) and mix it up. Sprinkle the powder on your carpets and let it sit for about 3 hours. Vacuum up the powder and you'll have deodorized carpets and a fresh scent that lingers.

Enjoy clean carpets, fresh smells and more money in your pocket! Happy cleaning!
