Moving Out Cleaning Checklist

All My Sons Austin is an Austin packing company focused on making your move a stress-free process. If you follow this moving out cleaning checklist, you will be sure to have an easy time cleaning everything up on moving day.

Before you start cleaning, there are certain cleaning supplies you can not do without. These include: glass cleaners, baking soda, disinfecting cleaners, mop, broom, rubber gloves, brushes, vacuum cleaner, etc.

You should wait until all of your things have been loaded onto the moving truck to give your old home a final cleaning. The last thing you want to do is clean your house, and then have it be full of dust and grime while you are packing everything up.

The best way to clean is from top to bottom and back to front, according to our Austin packing company. Start by doing the dry (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming) tasks first. You can't efficiently wash surfaces down with a damp cloth if there's still dust on them. Once all of the dry tasks are completed, you should stick to cleaning task-by-task, rather than room-by-room.

Now you know the basics of cleaning your home, follow this cleaning checklist from our Austin packing company for an efficient cleaning process.

Kitchen

Empty all the cabinets and drawers and remove any liners. You should clean them with a soft sponge and a mild cleaner. To remove any stains or residue from counter tops, clean them with warm, soapy water and a cloth. Next, scrub the sink and faucets with an appropriate cleaning product to make them look new. You can use a chlorine-free bleach to give them a tip top shine. All you have to do is put bleach and water into a spray bottle, spray all over the sink and let it soak for a while. The appliances should be empty and spotless. Empty and defrost the refrigerator and wipe the appliance inside and out with warm soapy water. To thoroughly clean your stove, remove all grills, oven racks and drip pans and clean them as appropriate. Remove all the grease and grime from the entire stove surface with a degreasing agent.

Bathrooms

Scrub the tile and grout with a cleaner that contains bleach, and then rinse well. Use an adequate disinfectant product to clean the tub, tub fixtures, shower rod, shower head and shower enclosure to get rid of any soap scum. When cleaning the sinks and faucets, the professional movers at our Austin packing company recommend using an old toothbrush to remove any stains that are in small nooks and crannies. To clean the countertops, use disinfectant wipes or a wet sponge with soapy water. Sanitize the toilet bowl, tank and seat, and then finally scrub and mop the floor.

Bedrooms/Living Rooms

You should start by removing all curtains to properly clean windowsills, frames, tracks and blinds. Wash or dry-clean curtains to get rid of any dust that may have accumulated. Empty all dressers, closets and drawers and clean them inside and out. If you have a fireplace, do not forget to clean it and replace the furnace filter. Lastly, you should clean the floors appropriately, depending on the type of floor.
