Visit the post office to fill out a “change of address” form in-person or go online to the USPS website to fill it out at home. Filling out the form will allow mail to be forwarded to the new address for up to a year, giving you plenty of time to update your address with other places of importance.

Another important organization with whom you should update your address is your utility company. Contact your utility company a week or two in advance to schedule a service activation before moving into your new home.
