The Difference Between Moving Companies and Moving Brokers

Before you start your move, you may have come across the terms “moving brokers” and “moving companies.” Two terms which are completely different yet sound the same. Our Texas movers have gone in-depth to fully explain the difference and for you to understand which the right choice for you and your family.

So, what's the difference?

To get things started let us break down the simple terms between the two:

Moving Broker: This the middleman between the household who is moving and moving companies. This is NOT a professional moving company, these are trained sales members who will arrange transportation for your household items and then proceed to sell your booking info to a moving company. It is important to note that brokers are not authorized to transport your household items because they are not licensed to drive, transport or move your items.

Moving Company: These are the actual professionals who are trained and authorized to do the labor-intensive moving. For example, our McKinney auto movers are a reputable moving company that owns a fleet of trucks and provides the proper packing supplies needed when packing up your house. A moving company provides a full-service experience.

When packing up a house and transporting items, you want to know feel at ease knowing your household items will be safe and accounted for. A moving broker will usually not resume responsibility of your household items if something goes missing or becomes damaged. Our Texas movers, however, are equipped with moving insurance to ensure all your items will be either replaced at the cost of the items that were damaged.

Most moving brokers ask for a large deposit before you begin your move, the issue with this is that your deposit may not always go towards the move itself.

Our Texas moving company only requires a small deposit to book the move date you wish to move out on.

When hiring a broker, you may not get the opportunity to research the company the broker has hired for you. Brokers come with a lot of cons, however it is ultimately up to you if you decide to use a broker.

But if you do choose to pick a moving broker make sure that they are registered with the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and always ask for the written agreement the brokers have with moving companies they use.

In the end it is always up to you on what to use, but our McKinney auto movers are here to help you if you decide to go with a moving company. Contact us at All My Sons Moving & Storage to learn more.
