Make Moving Easier On Your Kids

Moving to a new home can be an extremely exciting time. However, if you have children, they may be less excited about San Antonio movers coming to your home and packing up all of their belongings. As a parent, there are several things you can do to help your children cope with the move and adjust to their new home.

Make a Wish List

What are some things your children want in your new home? They may desire a bigger backyard to play in, individual bedrooms, or to be closer to a park. Sit down with your children and find out what features they want in their new home. Doing this may help your children get excited about their new home instead of being sad about leaving their old one. Additionally, you may also want to make a list of all of the fun activities that your new location may have to offer. For example, if there is a theme park or an interesting museum nearby, mention these attractions to your children.

Search for Your New Home Together

When you’re house-hunting, don’t leave your kids with a babysitter. Instead, take them along with you. This is a good opportunity to familiarize them with the idea of a new home and help them identify which features they might enjoy. If you can’t bring them with you while you look at houses, go back and drive by the ones you are considering later on with your children to help them picture their new home.

Plan a Goodbye Party

One of the reasons your children may have a difficult time moving to a new place is because they are sad to leave their friends and school. Help your children find closure with this period in their life by throwing a goodbye party for their friends to attend. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of moving, remember that this party doesn’t have to be extravagant. Provide a few snacks and then let your children have time to play with their friends.

Create a Memory Book

Just because you are moving doesn’t mean that your children have to permanently say goodbye to their old friends. Help them cherish and stay in touch with their friends by creating a memory book. You may want to include pictures of them with their friends in addition to their phone numbers and email addresses. If you aren’t moving too far away, remind your children that they can always see their old friends on special occasions.

Help Your Children Get Involved

Once the San Antonio movers have packed up your home, transported your belongings, and unpacked your things in your new one, your children may feel unsure of their surroundings. If you moved during the summer, don’t wait for the school year to start to help them start making friends. Instead, find out what activities are going on in your community and encourage your children to get involved.

Although moving can be a difficult situation, it may prove to be even harder for young children who are worried about adjusting to a new location. However, by following these guidelines, your may find that your children are able to cope with the move better than you originally expected.
