Moving to a new city can be intimidating, and it helps to know a little bit about a particular area before moving there. This is something we know all too well at the Atlanta local movers, which is why we have created a guide to help you move into the Peach City with ease. Read on and you'll feel comfortable making a decision about where you want to live, where to send your kids to school, and much more.
First things first: are you a better fit for the city or for one of Atlanta's many suburbs?
Atlanta is a huge metropolis, and the combined statistical area is made up of almost 40 counties. That's a lot of ground to cover! One of the initial questions you need to answer is if you want to live in the heart of the city (in a condo or other multi-tenant housing) or in the suburbs (with likely more land). If you already have a job lined up in Atlanta, that should help you narrow down your choices to a particular region. As far as work is concerned, Atlanta has notoriously long commutes—going a few miles can easily take an hour. You probably want to live close to where you work, or at least close to public transportation, your children's school, and a place with nearby amenities for you to enjoy on the weekends. Some of the popular suburbs in the Atlanta area include Dunwoody/Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta, Kennesaw, Chamblee, Norcross, Decatur, Peachtree City and Fayetteville. Popular Atlanta neighborhoods for singles include Buckhead, Midtown, East Atlanta, Old Fourth Ward, Downtown, West Midtown/Home Park and Little Five Points. These neighborhoods offer vibrant nightlife and lots of activities.
In and around Atlanta lies Marta, which is the rail and bus system serving the following areas, as well as a few others:
North Atlanta: Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and the general Perimeter Mall area, Brookhaven, Buckhead (near Lenox Mall), Chamblee, Doraville
Intown: Downtown, Midtown, Grant Park, Inman Park, Candler Park, Edgewood, East Lake
East Atlanta: Decatur, Avondale Estates, parts of Stone Mountain
South Atlanta: Lakewood, East Point, Capitol View, College Park
As a general note, popular neighborhoods with many residents in Atlanta are close to Marta access.
