It's an inevitable part of moving; somewhere along the trip something breaks or goes missing, and it's always your favorite item when it happens. Luckily, you did your research about moving insurance before you started your move! Need to know how to file an insurance claim? Our Nashville local movers can tell you all you need to know about filing a moving insurance claim.
When filing a claim for a missing or damaged item with insurance through your mover, you will need to have a couple of things handy.
For starters, you will want to make sure that you have your signed inventory sheet ready. This would've been provided by the moving company and will have all of your items listed on it. Once all your items have been moved, if you notice that any are damaged or missing, notify your movers right away and make a note on the inventory sheet before you sign it.
If you notice that any of your items are damaged, it's best to take pictures of the damaged items to submit them when filing an insurance claim. Leave the broken items in the box and ask the movers if they will hold the box for you while you take a picture so that the moving company is more likely to accept your claim.
If you don't notice that there are damaged or missing items before your move is complete, most moving companies allow for a claim to be filed within nine months of your items being delivered. The moving company then has 30 days to acknowledge your claim and either approve or deny your claim within 120 days of it being made. Nashville residential movers recommend that you review your liability amount declared on your move so that you can make sure your claim will be accepted.
Filing a claim through a third-party company, such as our home insurance, is a little easier because they will take care of most of the work for you. If you opted out of moving insurance directly through your moving service, then you will need the following information present when filing an insurance claim.
You will still need the signed inventory sheet from your movers when submitting a claim to your third-party insurance company. On the sheet are moving stipulations that you will need to relay to the insurance provider so that they may begin the claim process for you. The insurance provider will make sure that the item being replaced isn't covered by the movers and then they will work directly with the movers on your behalf.
