Nobody enjoys being sick, especially when that sickness could potentially be life-threatening. The coronavirus has created some scary times for the whole world but if everyone does their part to flatten the curve, things can start getting better. By now, everyone is familiar with the stay-at-home orders - people have adjusted to working from home and wearing a mask in public is no longer weird. Lowering your risk of COVID-19 is easy, all you have to do is follow the guidelines set by the CDC and check in with your doctor if you think you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms. Our Salt Lake City movers share ways you can lower your risk of contracting COVID-19.
Our Salt Lake City local movers know that the best way to be prepared for anything is to make a plan! We plan all moves with our clients so that we are prepared for any and everything on moving day. The same goes for lowering your risk of getting COVID-19. Creating a household plan to help protect your health and the health of your family during the coronavirus is the first step in staying safe.
Talk to your family; discuss concerns each person has about the coronavirus outbreak, and try to address those concerns by developing a plan of action in case a member of the family is sick or is tested positive for COVID-19. If you don't already have one, create an emergency contact list that includes family and friends you can rely on as well as healthcare providers, among others as they pertain to your family. Next, consider how you are going to take care of vulnerable family members who may have a higher risk of contracting the virus or may experience other complications. Ensure that family members on prescriptions, such as the elderly, have enough of their medications and other necessary supplies to last shelter in place orders. Otherwise, arrange a routine pick-up or delivery to make sure they are taken care of.
Talk to your neighbors, frequently check the community website, and join community groups on social media to stay up to date on coronavirus news in the neighborhood as well as what's generally going on. Jot down local organizations and other resources you and your family may need to get through quarantine and this pandemic.
Lowering your risk of getting COVID-19 involves a series of preventive actions as well as the community's cooperation. Older adults especially, who have a higher risk of contracting the virus, should follow the CDC guidelines closely.
Avoid close contact with people, particularly those that are visibly sick.
Stay home when you are sick, with the exception of medical appointments.
Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects (e.g., tables, countertops, light switches, doorknobs, and cabinet handles).
Launder items, including washable plush toys, as appropriate and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. If possible, launder items using the warmest appropriate water setting for the items and dry items completely. Dirty laundry from an ill person can be washed with other people's items.
